Cuba, Cameroon and New Orleans meet in the shapes of three special & gifted musicians: Richard Bona, Alfredo Rodríguez, and as a special guest, Taylor Gordon. Together they blend different musical worlds from Cameroonian and cuban music to spicy R&B grooves.
Richard Bona & Alfredo Rodriguez met at Montreux Jazz Festival where they were introduced to each other by Quincy Jones. The connection stuck and resulted in 2016 in a beautiful contribution of Bona on the track ‘Raíces (Roots)’ from his debut album Tocororo.
Richard Bona’s status as one of the best bassists in the world is not an overstatement. He’s known to grasps the audience’s attention large and small with his heartwarming appearance, swirling virtuosity on bass and his unique ability to switch effortlessly between genres. He’s proven himself as absolute world class. No wonder people dubbed him “the Sting of Africa”. During his worldwide musical travels, he came to play with greats such as Pat Metheny, George Benson, Quincy Jones and Mike Stern. Now he’s found Aflredo Rodríguez for his latest collaboration, fueled by their shared love for Cuban music. The Havana born jazz pianist and composer is already named as one of Cuba’s best, which is saying something.
Bass virtuoso Richard Bona combines the sound of his African roots effortlessly with almost any genre of music. His inspiring and pronounced style of playing incite excitement and joy. With his mastery of the bass, he instils an irresistible groove combined with his unique almost transcending voice.
Hailed as one of Cuba’s greatest pianists, Havana born Alfredo Rodríguez (1985) was discovered by the great Quincy Jones and is known for the ease in which he switches between genres. He released five albums from which his latest with master-percussionst Pedrito Martinez. His energetic playing and technical virtuosity will light up any venue.
LA based drummer Taylor Gordon is quickly becoming the go-to drummer for artists as diverse as Beyoncé, Robert Glasper, Stevie Wonder and joined the houseband of Late Night show host Seth Meyer. Taylor is known as “The Pocket Queen”, knows how the hold a groove, but is also a multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and producer.
