Not the first name that springs to mind when you think jazz singer but don’t let Janne Schra’s cheerful pop-esque tones fool you. This dutch singer-songwriter turned pop-star sweeps you along in her catchy melodies and then subtly surprises you with understated polyrhythms and jazzy harmonies.
Janne Schra became famous with her pop-jazz band Room Eleven, with whom she made the hit ‘Hey, hey, hey, winning an Edison Jazz Award (2006) and Zilveren Harp (2009). After Room Eleven and another band; Schradinova, she went solo, making a number of albums and working with some of the best artists and producers in The Netherlands. Janne has performed all over the world: at the Montreal Jazz Festival, in Berlin, in Tokyo, etc. She’s made gold and platinum records, and her album PONZO (2015) was nominated for an Edison, and a 3voor12 Award immediately. Now it’s time for a new project: LALALA LOVE.
In this deeply personal concert, Janne Schra draws from her entire oeuvre; from Room Eleven and Schradinova to her solo work and back again. In an intimate line-up, she plays her favorite songs as they would sound in a smoky jazz bar in Paris in the 1960s. LALALA LOVE is an ode to her love for swing and gypsy from a bygone age. Let yourself be carried away by the newly arranged songs, through her life full of weird, touching and funny stories about love and of course her bewitching voice.”
