Enrico Pieranunzi Trio – Papyruszaal 8:00 pm
“The most lyrically inventive of contemporary pianists” - Stuart Broomer - All About Jazz, February 2010
This Italian pianist knows exactly how to tell us his message. He sounds great, playing subtle lines and porcelain chords. He can swing, crispy and surely. But in those tempos, he remains his lyrical self. His music sings. With these qualities he has breathed new life into contemporary jazz. Along Keith Jarret and Chick Corea, he is one of the greatest jazz pianists of his generation.
Enrico Pieranunzi (1949) is a gifted classical and jazz pianist. His concerts often have a varied repertoire with music of composers like J.S. Bach, Sting, Wayne Shorter, Claude Debussy and Ennio Morricone. Accompanied by two wonderful Belgian musicians, he will bring you in a state of wonder and serenity: remember the name – get lost in the music.

Dianne Reeves – Papyruszaal 10:00 pm
Grammy Awards 2001, 2002, 2003, 2006
Blue Note recording artist Dianne Reeves is the pre-eminent jazz vocalist in the world today. As a result of her virtuosity, improvisational prowess and unique jazz and R&B stylings, she was awarded the Grammy for Best Vocal Performance for four consecutive recordings – a Grammy first in any vocal category. The 2006 Grammy was for her magnificent sound track of the movie ‘Good Night and Good Luck’ with George Clooney. In 2011 she won the Concertgebouw Jazz Award in Amsterdam.
She is a natural story teller, with a timing and phrasing that brings new insights to everything she sings. Het quartet consists of excellent teamplayers, who will certainly contribute to the standing ovations, that will accompany Dianne Reeves when she leaves the stage.

Jazz+ Productions
Jazz musicians have to improvise at a high level. That’s why they spontaneously communicate with each other, and with artist that work in other disciplines (other styles of music, or theatre, dance, etc.).
Jazz+ is a process, where this communication results in something new.
Dutch jazz+ projects are made in cooperation with a.o. the Limburg Symphony Orchestra and the St. Petrus and Paulus brass band in Wolder. This festival features ‘Nanophony’, a Jazz+ project created by Marie van Vollenhoven.
EuJazz+ Award Competition
Eujazz (6 jazz organizations in the Euro-region) organizes a bi-annual competition for interdisciplinary productions, with jazz as connecting catalyst. Jazz musicians enter into a dialogue with practitioners of other forms of art. Because of its international character, it is a unique award granted by 6 organizations from Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands. Among the participating projects are ‘Nanophony ‘ by Marie van Vollenhoven (on stage at Jazz Maastricht Masters), ‘Cyclop Max’ by Frank Vaganée (C-Mine Jazz Genk) and ‘Stavroguine’ by Jean-Pol Schroeder (Jazz à Liège). The first Eujazz Award Ceremony for interdisciplinary productions will be in March 2013.

Dianne Reeves & Amnesty International
The most recent Grammy granted to Dianne Reeves was for the sound track of the movie Good Night and Good Luck, directed by George Clooney. Both the story and her singing are remarkable.
The story tells the actions of the American journalist Edward Munrow and his staff to discredit the tactics used by senator Joseph McCarthy during his crusade to root out ‘Communist’ elements.
Dianne Reeves regularly brings her unique set of skills and experience to build awareness and revitalize the youth and community at large-by using art as a catalyst for dialogue and tolerance. Amnesty International works for freedom of speech and respect for each other. Section Maastricht is present at this festival.
